The ‘Care Bundle’ has been developed by The Paul Ridd Foundation. It will help the Welsh HNS Health Boards and Trusts to be consistently alert to and respond to the needs of people with learning disabilities and their families and carers, when they access general hospital services. The ‘Care Bundle’ are a set of guidelines to ensure that people with a learning disability receive the quality healthcare they are entitled to. It has been designed to help hospital staff ensure that adults with learning disabilities receive a fair and equitable service when they visit hospital.
The ‘Care Bundle’ sets out 7 key steps, which if taken consistently for all patients who have a learning disability, will ensure:
- Early recognition of patients with learning disabilities
- Dignified, person-centred care and treatment
- Effective communication with patients, carers, family members and clinicians
- Effective review and discharge planning
The Forum continues to raise awareness of the Bundles amongst our network of family carers in Wales. A shot informational video has been created which outlines the pathway and the story of Paul Ridd. You will find the link to the film below:
