‘National inspection of care and support for people with learning disabilities’ report 2016

Care and support in Wales is changing. Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) wanted to check what local authorities are doing to help people with learning Disabilities

Last week the All Wales Forum attended the launch of the ‘National inspection of care and support for people with learning disabilities’ report.

The inspection was conducted by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) and the Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW). Together they visited 6 local authorities to assess the quality, safety of care and support provided to adults with learning disabilities. The inspection looked at what is working well. It also looked at the barriers and areas for improvement.

The 6 local authorities assessed were Gwynedd Council, Conwy County Borough Council, Torfaen County Borough Council, Pembrokeshire County Council, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and Bridgend County Borough Council.

The purpose of the inspection was to assess the success of local authority social services in achieving outcomes that matter to people. The All Wales Forum worked with CSSIW on this report in an effort to proactively engage family carers who are affected by the issues discussed in this report.

You can find out much more about the inspection at this link. It is where you can find the overview report which includes the findings and recommendations of CSSIW and HIW. You can also find the individual reports for the 6 different local authorities that were inspected. All of these are also available in an easy read format.
